Taj's story and IMGD
Inherited Myopathy in Great Danes (IMGD) - originally called Central Core Myopathy - is a genetic disease that can afflict fawn and brindle Great Danes beginning around 6 months of age.
The aim of this website is to provide information about this disease to owners, breeders and the veterinary/science community, and all of us who have fallen in love with Great Danes. The website includes information about the medical and scientific side of this disease, as well as information for owners and lovers of Great Danes in language non-scientists can understand. Jan Mahoney and Dean Male created this website as a dedication to Taj. Our thanks also go to our friends Roger and Michael who took Taj into their home when our house on the hill got too much for him. In March 2018 a couple of US students contacted me after finding Taj's website.
"I am currently a student in biochemistry at North Dakota State University. We have been assigned to find a disorder and take it down to the biomolecular level and find a story that goes with it. My group has been assigned Inherited Myopathy of Great Danes (BIN1). I was wondering if we could share Taj’s Story in our video?" They produced this video which made me cry, and made me pleased that Taj is both remembered and his short life was not wasted. |
